Elegance and facemasks

Two observations which do not require one to be Sherlock Holmes.
1. On Sunday* a lot of people, especially young women, reaaally dress up. Some of them go to the video game area of a Department Store and have picture taken together with friends in a similar attire. On a side note, there are other girls who, having stumbled on a video game area turned out to be excellent at car racing (Isabella did not take after her mom, for sure - at these games I die after 3 seconds: as soon the speed increases a little bit. She concluded the race and beat the virtual opponent).
2. A lot of people, of any age, wear a facemask. For me this is puzzling, unless the one wearing it is sick or weak, which cannot always be the case, since we saw entire families wearing them. So it must mean that they wear it in order not to get contaminated by the viruses of other people they encounter. I hope I will get over the feeling of being extremely dirty while interacting with someone wearing an hygienic face mask...

What adds to the puzzlement is the combination of extremely elegant attire and the white paper facemask. Would you guys wear it: if you are not sick; if you are not working in a very small environment such a taxi; at any cost even when wearing your most wonderful clothes?

*P.s. Forgive my ignorance everyone! Yesterday was not a regular Sunday but the one preceding the Coming of Age Day!! That’s why so many young women were so splendidly dressed up! Thanks Yoko for letting me know!

  2. The facemask is so weird. Could it be for pollution reasons?

    1. I am not sure, Sabrina. I have heard that at a Japanese school a teacher recommended students to wear it during the couple of weeks before the exams, to make sure they did not get ill! So I do think it is against viruses. There also have disinfectant hand-washes at the entrance of many buildings...
